Common description
The Macdonald Houstoun house is actually three houses in one: the tower house added to the elegant country side and charming stability. This characteristic combination ensures that most rooms have excellent views over the hotel's gardens or beyond to the Ecclesmachan Hills. The Old Tower of Houstoun was built in the early 17th century by John Shairp and was in the Shairp family for 350 years. Vaulted ceilings and open fires combine with traditional Scottish hospitality to create an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming yet distinctly refined and discreet. All 71 rooms are tastefully decorated and well appointed, coming as standard with full en suite facilities, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, modem point, hair dryer, iron and board, trouser press, complimentary minerals, work area with desk and shoe shine service. An extensive wine list combined with a skillful presentation of dishes and fresh local produce has made Houstoun one of the outstanding restaurants in Scotland's mid-belt. The award-winning fine dining restaurant is located on the first floor of the historic 16th century tower. Alternatively, the Leisure Club Bistro offers more casual fare and surroundings. Leisure facilities at Vital Leisure Club include an 18 meter swimming pool, sauna, sun shower, steam bath, gymnasium, aerobics, beauty salon, tennis court and golf course. This facility is free for guests.tennis court and golf course.
