Common description
History, character, and distinctive food and drink make a visit to New Flying Horse Wye a delightful experience, but even that is topped off with a unique garden feature. Along with a wood-burning fireplace and oak beams, the 17th-century post house retains an authentic recreation of the Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner, Julian Dole's successful design "A Soldier's Dream of Lightheadedness." The Chelsea Seniors Garden was created for the Chelsea Flower Show in 2005 with the participation of the Chelsea Seniors and includes a Dig for Victory garden, a pond, a field of poppies and a miniature traditional English pub. It forms the centerpiece of an expansive garden with a playground where visitors can dine al fresco or enjoy cream tea during the summer months. The pub serves real Kentish ales in casks, which are kept in excellent condition, as well as a wide range of wines. Entertainment includes dominoes, cards and board games, as well as regular quiz nights and monthly acoustic indie and jazz sessions. With nine comfortable rental rooms, the pub is a good base from which to explore the surrounding countryside, and Canterbury Cathedral is a short drive away.
